On the sketch for Venturini Fendi sent to WWD, Lagerfeld wrote, “My dear Silvia, for boys and girls, it’s nice with straight lapels. Je t’embrasse fort [A strong hug]. Love, Karl.” After, the room went dark and a video featured a not-too-long-ago Lagerfeld sketching his first-ever design all the way from 1965, showing that at Fendi, his memory will always live on.
Lagerfeld was appointed the creative director of Fendi in 1965. During his tenure, he revolutionized the use of fur in fashion, treating it as if it were fabric and employing techniques traditionally associated with tailoring and dressmaking, as seen in the examples displayed here from his autumn/winter 1971–72 and 2012–13 collections.
